Maple Brown Sugar Cinnamon Buns

Writer: Shani WeckerShani Wecker

This warm and gooey timeless classic is the ultimate go-to comfort food! With a wide variety of options out there, the maple, brown sugar and cinnamon combination bring a delicious spin to the traditional roll.

Dough

1 (1/4 oz) pkg dry yeast

1 cup warm water or milk

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter, slightly melted

1 egg

1 tspn salt

4 (maybe more) cups all purpose flour

When mixing doughs, I like to start with the yeast, water and a sprinkling a sugar to get the yeast working. Once the mixture starts bubbling you can go ahead and add the rest of the dough ingredients. Let it mix, either by hand or in a mixer with a hook, until a smooth dough forms. Turn onto a floured surface and knead the dough for a few more minutes. Loosely cover the dough and let it rise in a warm spot until it just about doubles in size.

Filling and Assembly

3/4 cup oil

1 cup brown sugar

2 TBSP cinnamon

Roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Brush on the oil. Sprinkle on a generous amount of brown sugar and cinnamon to cover the dough and roll! Let the dough rest for a few minutes before cutting.

Cut 2” slices and arrange in a buttered pan; either round or in individual tins. Let the buns rise in warm spot until they double in size.

Baking

Bake on 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes, depending on your oven, until the buns are lightly browned.

Syrup

1 cup hot water (boiled)

2 TBSP maple syrup

While still hot, brush the syrup lightly over the buns allowing them to soak up the moisture.

Icing

4 TBSP butter

1/2 cup cream cheese

2 cups powdered sugar

2 TBSP maple syrup

2 TBSP hot water

Combine the icing ingredients and mix until creamy. Liberally coat the buns, or drizzle, based on your preference, and enjoy!
